Compton Kenny designed several Reebok sneakers over the past few years, but now has inked a creative partnership with Team Nike. Be humble.

If you are an eagle-eyed person, you might notice that Kendrick Lamar’s shoe game is a bit different than before in past years. The Compton, Calif.-based artist was known around the world as a Reebok guy, especially after remixing their Ventilator, Classic Leather and Club C shoes. Using the branding opportunity as a way to create unity among the Bloods and the Crips in his neighborhood, the Ventilator shoe stood out for its premium Red and Blue drop, its clean beige colorway and message of peace in the streets.

Now, after completing those series of collaborations, Kung-Fu Kenny, the chart-topping, show-stopping phenom, has aligned with Nike in a new creative partnership deal. He made the announcement via his Instagram page on Saturday, Aug. 26, before he would open up the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards.

“Cortez. Since day one,” the Twitter and Instagram post from Kenny was captioned. In the photo above you can see him rocking the legendary Nike shoe, which was probably taken during one of his recent tour stops. If you are a sneakerhead then you know just how popular this shoe was and will become now that a guy like Kendrick is endorsing the shoe. Hell, it was personally my shoe of choice when I was in high school. Although there is no formal press release, it is only right to see Cornrow Kenny link up with the Swoosh, right?

No shots to Reebok, but Nike is a global, otherworldly footwear brand that would give Kendrick the reach and access to share the message of Hiiipower with the masses. Now, the only few questions we have are will he continue to add in the anti-gang agenda in his version of the Cortez… and can we get an early pair for review.

We’ll definitely keep an eye on this as it continues to develop.
