The versatile Australian vocalist strikes again

At not even 20-years of age, Genesis Owusu, a skilled lyricist and malleable vocalist from Australia’s capital city, is already carving out his own lane. Earlier this summer, Owusu delivered the cerebral concept piece, Cardrive, a seven-track EP furnished with jazz-minded flows and a touch of funk.

Today, he returns with a pair of fellow countryman in tow on the slinky and bass-heavy new single “Sideways,” featuring production from Hiatus Kaiyote‘s key player and drummer, Simon Mavin and Perrin Moss. A proper pairing of boundary-pushing producers and spry risk-taking MC, the match-up makes for three-minutes of undulant, slightly off-kilter frequencies. For the Moss and Mavin it marks their first output since last summer’s Recalibrations, Vol. 1 EP, with new takes on fan favorites from Taylor McFerrin, Anderson .Paak and Vikter Duplaix (the band’s 2015 album, Choose Your Weapon, before that.)
