Halle Berry “Disappointed’ That Her Oscar Win Did Little For Diversity

Halle Berry has been on a roll giving her opinions on the racial issues facing the nation.

Now, she’s speaking out on diversity in Hollywood, and the rude awakening she got when doors didn’t exactly fly open for women of color after she was awarded an Oscar for her controversial role in Monster’s Ball.

Halle sat with Teen Vogue this week and lamented over the Academy’s reluctance to recognize Black folks’ accomplishments in filmmaking, as well as the lack of meaty roles for people of color.

“I sat there and I thought, ‘Wow, that moment really meant nothing. It meant nothing. I thought it meant something but I think it meant nothing. And I was profoundly hurt by that, and saddened by that.

It inspired me to get involved in other ways, which is why I want to start directing, I want to start producing more,” she said. “I want to start being a part of making more opportunities for people of color.”

Good! She’s made it clear she ain’t here for whining without action. Hopefully Halle can help change the tides from behind the scenes…
