“A Childish Gambino film”

This weekend, Donald Glover (the artist occasionally known as Childish Gambino,) brought his PHAROS event to New Zealand. But a performance wasn’t all that was in store for the crowd.

Glover premiered the trailer for a film directed by his longtime collaborator, Hiro Murai, and co-starring Rihanna. The project doesn’t flash a title in the trailer itself, but it is billed as “A Childish Gambino film,” and appears to be shot in Cuba, where the duo was spotted filming over the summer. According to Pitchfork, local Cuban outlet, Vistar, reported the name of the filmto be Guava Island, though that remains to be confirmed. A fan-shot clip of the trailer has surfaced. Earlier this year, Childish Gambino performed at Rihanna’s Diamond Ball charity event and lapped the states on his This Is America tour until sustaining a foot injury at a Dallas performance. He’s since rescheduled a number of canceled dates and is rumored to be one of Coachella’s headliners in 2019, along with Kanye West and Justin Timberlake.
