L.A. Tosses “Columbus Day”, Plans To Celebrate NAtive Americans Instead
Salute to Los Angeles, for doing what needed to be done for 25 generations. That’s unreserving a day for a man that never discovered a damn thing, who thought the world was flat and instead highlighting America’s indigenous peoples. According to NBC, Council members voted 14-1 to make the second Monday in October a day to commemorate indigenous, aboriginal and native people. It will be a paid holiday for city employees.
An angelic councilman named Mitch O’Farrell, a member of the Wyandotte Nation tribe, pushed for the switch. When he took office four years ago, he was sworn in by his tribe’s chief, who performed a traditional blessing at the event. Super dope.
A councilman Joe Buscaino was the lone “no” vote to the change. He sided with Italian-Americans, who view Columbus Day as a celebration of their national heritage. Los Angeles joins San Francisco and several other cities who now honor Native Americans instead of sh-tty Christopher Columbus.
