Surprise, surprise! The Roots and Antibalas are getting ready to rock the stage in downtown NYC tonight. The performance comes courtesy of the city’s two-day Lowdown Hudson Music Festival at Brookfield Place, tonight being the opening and continuing on with performances from Valerie June, Rayland Baxter and Drive-by Truckers tomorrow night, July 13th. For those that may have missed us in Philly at the top of June for the 9th annual Roots Picnic, this should provide a nice conciliation.

And best of all, it’s completely free! Bring your mother, father, sister and brother. There will be no shortage of musical merriments to go around. Antibalas will provide the proper warm-up at 7pm with The Roots taking the stage immediately following. So run, don’t walk. It’s about to be showtime. If it doesn’t work out for you tonight, it may just be time to bite the bullet and grab a ticket to the inaugural installation of Roots Picnic in NYC, where they’ll perform with the likes of D’Angelo, John Mayer, The Wu-Tang Clan, David Byrne and Nile Rodgers.
