Mobb Deep’s masterful sophomore album, The Infamous, mostly featured in-house production.

However, there were two songs where the Queens duo got outside help: “Temperature’s Rising” and “Drink Away the Pain (Situations).” Both of those songs were produced by Q-Tip.

Yes, the A Tribe Called Quest-leader was an early collaborator with the Mobb. So it wasn’t surprising to see he was devastated when news came out that Prodigy died earlier in the week.

On Friday, Q-Tip had his Abstract Radio show on Beats 1. He dedicated this episode to Prodigy. Tip played classic Mobb for two hours.

Tip started the showing by saying a couple of kind words:

“We lost a big one. I’m about to take y’all through the zone…you know what it is. Prodigy from Mobb Deep. Rest in peace. Rest in power to the brother…his whole family. The whole Johnson Family and all that. Celebrating the life and the legacy of Mobb Deep’s Prodigy. We love you, baby.”

When news came out that P died on Tuesday, Q-Tip was one of the first words to memorialize the rapper on social media:

Man I’m rocked by the news of my man p passing… So many memories w him n havoc n the fellas.. Man im @ a loss
